Study goal: The goal of this research is to find out how big an effect stigma has on epilepsy patients, if they feel stigmatised in their family, social and business environment and how much stigma influences their everyday life. Study design: cross section research has been conducted in a specialist clinic at Department of Neurology, University Hospital Centre Osijek. Methods and participans: Research was conducted on 84 participants suffering from epilepsy. A structured anonymus survey questionnaire titled Epilepsy stigma scale was used as a research instrument. The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions. First nine questions were either multiple choice or open ended questions and they have given socio-demographic data for the research. The other ten questions examined the emotional and social functioning of epilepsy patients. Participants' responses have been indicated by Likert scale in 7 response categories with categories being: strongly disagree (1*), moderately disagree (2*), partially disagree (3*), neither agree nor disagree (4*), partially agree (5*), moderately agree (6*), strongly agree (7*). Results: Based on the data analysis of stigma presence among epileptic patients, we can conclude that stigma, in a certain extent, influences the patients, which can be seen by the patients' need to prove themselves, as well as in their sense of diversity from other people not suffering from epilepsy. Conclusion: The role of a nurse is crucial in the education of epilepsy patients, their family members as well as the community the patients interact with.
