Objectives: The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of sleeping disorders and daytime sleepiness in patients suffering from depression. Furthermore, specific aims of the study included researching if there is any difference in sleep quality with regards to sex, as well as to examine if there is any correlation between sleep quality and quality of life in general. Study design: Cross-sectional study Participants and methods: The research included 30 patients diagnosed with depression, hospitalized at the Clinic of Psychiatry, Clinical Hospital Center Osijek. The instruments included in this research comprised of socio-demographic survey, The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Short Form Health Survey-36 (SF-36). Results: According to the results of the PSQI, all 30 of our participants experienced low sleep quality. Only 6/30 participants reported excessive daytime sleepiness. Statistically significant difference in sleep quality and daytime sleepiness with regards to sex has not been found. There is a significant negative correlation between the total PSQI and components regarding physical and mental health. Conclusion: Sleeping disorders are common in people suffering from depression and often lead to difficulties in functioning in regular life. Analyzing differences in patients’ survey answers statistically significant difference with regards to sex has not been found.
