Abstract | CILJ ISTRAŽIVANJA. USTROJ STUDIJE. Presječna studija. ISPITANICI I METODE. |

Parallel abstract (English) | OBJECTIVES: The main goal of this study was to evaluate the success of multidisciplinary treatment of chronic pain in patients where current pharmacological therapy proved to be inadequate. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: The study included 118 patients of both sexes who, from January 2016 to April 2017, underwent a four-week multidisciplinary program for pain treatment at the Clinic for Anaesthesiology, Reanimatology and Intensive Care of the Clinical Hospital Centre Osijek. The criteria for the involvement of respondents in the program were the duration of pain for more than 6 months, over 18 years of age, persistent pain after pharmacological and/or non-pharmacological therapy and pain intensity ≥ 5 on the numerical scale for assessing the pain level. RESULTS: There were 100 (85%) women and 18 (15%) men in the survey. The median age of the subjects was 60 years of age ranging from 38 to 83. The most frequent diagnosis was lumboischialgia, in 53 (61,6 %) subjects, followed by cervicobrachial syndrome in 14 (16%) subjects, arthrosis in 7 (8,1 %) and neurological diseases in 4 (4,7 %) patients. At the beginning of the four-week multidisciplinary program, the average pain intensity measured by the numerical scale was 6, and at the end of the program it was 4. All the results of the functional status measurement indicated a significant improvement after the completed program (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: A four-week multidisciplinary program proved to be successful in reducing pain and increasing the functional status of patients with chronic pain. |
