The aim of the study was to: 1. Determine the incidence of depressive disorder in older persons according to the International Classification of Diseases (MKB X) and the "Geriatric Depression Scale", depending on the way of life (Home for the Elderly and Infirm) 2. Determine the degree of depressive disorder in elderly persons living in the family's circle and persons in the home for the elderly and infirm. Methods: The study involved 100 subjects older than 70 years of age. The respondents are divided into two groups: persons accommodated in the "Ćorluka" and persons living in their families, each involving 50 respondents. Respondents agree to participate in the research by signing an informed consent containing the purpose and benefit data and the possible risks of this research. All respondents are asked the same questions. The study of the home director for the elderly and helpless person "Ćorluka" was also obtained. The data were collected through a general questionnaire and two scales. The general questionnaire was designed for the purpose of this research and collecting demographic data of respondents. The socio-demographic characteristics of the two groups examined were collected. Sickness Weighing Scale (Busner & Targum, 2007) and "Geriatric Scales of Depression" (Sheikth and Yesavage, 2000 translated and adapted to Croatian, Dr. Andrija Štampar, Geriatrics Center of NZJZ). Results: The results of the t-test show that there is a statistically significant difference (p <0.05) in the degree of depression among the respondents living in the institution relative to those who live at home with the family, although the respondents are at the marginal home of lower signs of depression. Conclusion: After analyzing the results, we confirmed the hypothesis of our research. So, older people who do not live in the circle of their family are also more depressed.
