Objectives: To investigate the incidence of mental and physical comorbidity diseases in depressed patients and to examine the differences in incidence between males and females, Study design: Cross sectional study with historical data Subjects and methods: The study was conducted on patients treated at the Clinic for Psychiatry of the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek due to depressive disorder in the period from January to December 2019 and includes 181 patients. As a source of data, medical histories of subjects with a diagnosis of depression were used and stored in the archives of the Clinic for Psychiatry of the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek. Results: The study was conducted on 181 subjects with depression, of whom 53% were men and 47% were women. The most common physical comorbidities regardless of gender are essential (primary) hypertension (37.6%) and gastritis and duodenitis (23.8%). The most common comorbid psychiatric diseases, regardless of gender, are post-traumatic stress disorder (33.1%), mental disorders and behavioral disorders caused by alcohol use - acute poisoning, addiction syndrome (11.6%). Conclusion: Depression is a disease of middle and old age, more common in people with secondary education or lower and the unemployed. The most common comorbidities in women are hypertension, gastritis and duodenitis, alcohol dependence syndrome and borderline personality disorder. In men, the most common comorbidities are hypertension, gastritis, and duodenitis, posttraumatic stress disorder, and alcohol dependence syndrome.
