Objective of the research. The aim of the research was to examine whether there is a difference in education and the way of being educate damong men and women with chronic heart failure. Draft of the study. The research is structured as a cross-sectional study. Respondents and methods. Patients were treated at the Internal Clinic at KBC Osijek, Department of Heart and Blood Diseases. They were treated under the diagnosis of chronic heart failure. The research was conducted in the period from May to August 2017. In the research the survey according to Likert score board about education and self-care in patients with chronic heart failure was conducted, as well as a questionnaire about demographic data and seven questions on the education about and the way they were being educated. Results. Out of a total of 129 examinees involved, there were more men than women. Significantly more male respondents have secondary education while women have elementary school. The average age of all subjects was between 48 and 91 years of age. Statistically, women were significantly older than men. The total number of hospitalizations among the respondents ranges from one to the seven hospitalizations. Statistically, women had significantly higher number of hospitalizations. Medical staff in combination with Internet was more frequently used for the source of information by men, while women mostly consulted exclusively doctor. Analyzing the answers of all respondents, it was found that significant majority of respondents know they should weigh themselves almost every day. All 129 respondents answered correctly to the question about procedures essential to control the disease, while the vast majority answered that along with medicines and nutrition it is necessary to work out or walk more. Furthermore, all respondents believe that physical activity on daily basis is important. Significant majority knows that they should eliminate salt intake and almost everyone knows exactly how to recognize the early symptoms of disease getting worse. Conclusion. Based on the research, we can conclude that the difference in education among male and female respondents is not significant. Patients with chronic heart failure need education to adapt to their chronic condition and improve self-care to help themselves reduce complications frequent hospitalization and mortality.
