Abstract | CILJ ISTRAŽIVANJA. NACRT STUDIJE. Presječno istraživanje iz povijesnih podataka. BOLESNICI I METODE. |
Abstract (english) | OBJECTIVES. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency and types of ocular prostheses manufactured from 1995 to 2018, temporary or permanent ones, depending on gender, age, left or right eye or both as well as the patients’ country of origin. STUDY DESIGN. A cross sectional study. PATIENTS AND METHODS. The study included patients with ocular prosthesis manufactured in Ocular prosthetics “Dr Popijač”from 1995 to 2018. Data were collected form the administrative and medical records. RESULTS. Statistical analysis of the data obtained showed that during the given period 2223 patients were supplied with 4850 ocular prostheses. 48.7% of patients needed right eye prosthesis, 47.5% left eye prosthesis and no data were found for 3.8% of patients. Most of the patients (90.8%) were from Croatia. Regarding the types of ocular prosthesis, full thickness prosthesis were produced for 72.5% of patients, scleral shell for 19.4%, prosthesis according to the impression of the eye socket for 5.4% and keratoprosthesis for 0.6% of patients. 1.4% of patients needed prostheses for both eyes and 1.5% of patients needed orbital prosthesis (epithesis). CONCLUSION. The number of manufactured ocular prostheses in a given period is constantly increasing. Considering the eye for which the prosthesis was been made, there are no significant differences between the left and right eye (χ2 test, P=0.31). Regarding the gender, there are significantly more males, with exception of the age group of 71 and over, where there are significantly more females (χ2 test, P<0.001). Significantly more females have an orbital prosthesis than males (χ2 test, P=0.005). There are no significant differences regarding the gender in patients with prostheses of both eyes (χ2 test, P=0.06). |
