OBJECTIVES: Examine the frequency of adapted PE, the connection of adepted PE by gender and place of living, the frequency of the type and duration of adapted PE, the most common reasons for adapted PE of students. STUDY DESIGN: A cross – sectional study with historical data. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Examinees are pupils and students exempted from practising PE during the school year 2021. / 2022. at the School Medicine Service, Teaching Institute for Public Health of Osijek – Baranja County. The sample size is 655 examinees. Data were collected from the Health Record of school children and youth and the information system. Data that were collected are sex of examinees, place of living, type of school, diagnoses based on which they were exempted and the type and duration of adapted PE they have. RESULTS: 1,62 % of the total number of all students in Osijek – Baranja County were exempted from physical education. 2/3 are female examinees, and 54,05 % of them attend high school. 17,09 % of examinees are in the first grade of high school. The connection between the type of school and the type and duration of release has been proven. The place of living has no connection with the type and duration of the exemption. 32,06 % of the exemption is based on musculoskeletal diseases. CONCLUSION: A large number of exemptions from physical education classes can be considered unjustified, which can be concluded from the unrealistically high share of musculoskeletal diagnoses as a reason for exemption from PE and granting exemptions based on groups of diseases that are not in the guidelines for exemption from PE.
