The aim of the research was to determine the connection between the experience and the pain intensity in trauma patients. Research draft. A cross - sectional survey was conducted during May and June 2016 in the Clinical Hospital Centre in Osijek, Department of Traumatology. Subjects and methods. 62 patients, 31 (50 %) men and 31 (50 %) women, took part in the survey. The questionnare about pain catastrophizing and numerical scale were used in this survey. Results. The pain intensity at admission was NRS 8 (5 - 10), the lowest perceived pain was NRS 3 (2 - 4), and the highest perceived pain was NRS 8 (7 - 9) during hospitalization. Significantly more common cause of accidents among men is the car accident, whereas women usually fall at home or during leisure activities. 67,7 % of respondents perceive strong intensity of pain at admission. 80,6 % of them are women, which is substantially more than men with high intensity pain. The median score of the catastrophizing was 16 (the interquartile range from 10 to 23,25). The median value of rumination was 6 (the interquartile range from 3 to 8), magnification was 4 (the interquartile range from 3 to 6) and helplessness was 6,50 (the interquartile range from 3 to 10). The survey showed the connection between catastrophizing, rumination and helplessness and the intensity of pain upon arrival. Furthermore, there is a connection between catastrophizing and the lowest intensity of pain during hospitalization. Magnification is associated with the lowest and the highest intensity of pain during hospitalization. The pain intensity upon arrival and the type of accident are interconnected. Conclusion. There is a connection between catastrophizing and the pain intensity at admission, which is more present among women. The highest intensity of pain during hospitalization is connected with magnification.
