Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare kidney morphology of mice with inhibited degradation of GlcCer in regard to wild-type mice by using histological staining. By using antibodies to ganglioside we will try to display the distribution of ganglioside in the kidney tissue of Gaucher model and wild-type. By using antibodies to flotillin and transferrin we want to visualize rafts and non rafts in GM and WT. Using antibodies to aquaporin the aim is to determine the location of aquaporins in the kidney of wild-type and Gaucher model. To determine the components of lipid rafts in GM and WT, we will use Western blot analysis. Study design: The study was conducted as a pair study Materials and methods: Study included kidney tissue taken from 8 animals, 4 experimental mice treated with Conduritol B epoxide Inhibitor to get GM and 4 wild-type. All animals were C57black/6. The animals were bred and sacrificed at the Vivarium of the Faculty of Medicine as part of the HRZZ project. Ethical permission for the studies was received from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia. Results: The expression of aquaporin 1 within the cortex (p = 0.025) and the core (p = 0.008) of the experimental animals decreased significantly, while the change in the expression of aquaporin 2 was noticeable only in the kidney cortex and decreased in the experimental animals (p <0.05). Flotillin 1 levels in the cortex and core of experimental group were significantly decreased and accompanied by a decrease in aquaporin 1. No differences were observed between the cortex and the core of the control and experimental animals for transferrin and GD1a. Conclusion: There are no significant differences between the morphology of kidney in hemalaun eosin staining. The distribution of aquaporin 1 in core and cortex of experimental and control animals shows that the concentrations of aquaporin 1 is higher in the cortex and core of control animals. There are no differences between cortex and kidney core in GD1a and transferin expression.
