Title: Aetiology and outcome of acute intracerebral haemorrhages Objectives: The primary objective was to examine the prevalence of etiological factors in ICH. Other objectives included investigating the prevalence of etiology based on gender and age, as well as the short-term outcome in patients with ICH. Study Design: This is a cross-sectional study with historic data. Patients and Methods: The study included 84 participants with hospital-treated intracerebral hemorrhage at the Clinic of Neurology, Clinical Hospital Center Osijek, from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022. Data were collected from the database of the Clinic of Neurology, Clinical Hospital Center Osijek. Information on blood pressure, hematological and biochemical findings, as well as imaging results (brain CT, brain MRI) of the patients, were collected from medical records. mRS was determined for each participant based on medical records and neurological deficits upon admission and at the end of hospitalization. Results: The study included 36 women and 48 men, with a median age of 71 years. The most common etiology of ICH was hypertensive (54 %) and CAA (17 %). Participants with ICH caused by structural malformations were significantly younger (median age of 37 years) than participants with other etiological categories of ICH (p = 0.006). There was no statistically significant difference in the clinical outcome of hypertensive ICH measured by mRS compared to the outcome of other ICH (p = 0.25). In our study, 32 out of 84 patients (38 %) had a fatal outcome from ICH. There were no fatal outcomes in the category of ICH caused by CAA. Conclusion: The most prevalent etiology of ICH was hypertensive. ICH due to structural malformations was more common in younger participants. There was no significant difference in the short-term outcome among the different etiological categories of ICH measured by mRS.
