OBJECTIVE: To examine is the differences in opinion between the first and the final year of the undergraduate nursing students in Osijek about legal, intentional abortion STUDY DESIGN: Cross – sectional study PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: The study included first and final year students of nursing. The method of research was an anonymous questionnaire, which was created in collaboration with the mentor. RESULTS: The research involved 94 respondents- students of the first and third year. Statistically significant differences have been found in the opinion that abortion is in most cases justified, where it is apparent that in spite of generally negative attitudes, third-year students have a more negative value of the answers than the students of the first year. Significantly positive opinions on the attitude that abortion leaves permanent psychological consequences on women can be found within third-year student, as opposed to the first-year students. Students of the third year have a statistically significant negative opinion on the church meddling in question of abortion. CONCLUSION: Most of the students of the third year believe that in most cases abortion is not justified, while first-year students do not have expressive views, nor do they agree nor disagree with the statement. Students of the third-year believe that abortion should be prohibited by law, while the students of the first year have a more positive attitude and don't agree with that statement. Most third-year students believe abortion leaves permanent psychological consequences on women, whereas opinions amongst first-year students are divided and they show no expressive attitudes.
